Multiple identical items with different brand names

i found a supplier. When I search the item on seller central it shows multiple identical items all with different brand names. Is this because they have a trademarked brand and had the supplier put their brand on the product? Do I just pick a brand and apply to sell their brand? How does the manufacturer know to put their brand on it? If it is their brand and their are multiple brand selling the same item, I'm not allowed to list it as generic, correct? How do I sell an unbranded item from a supplier of other people are creating multiple brands for the same item? Maybe I am not searching in seller university correctly but I can't seem to find the answer anywhere.

It sounds like you are looking at a manufacturer that will do custom branding for large enough orders. Its really common. Its also a sign that you should stay away from those products. If there are more than 2 or 3 sellers of an item it will be hard for you to make money. Its even harder with these types of items as you are often competing with the manufacturer selling it directly and all the other companies doing so only they have a longer account history and better pricing to get the buy box.

If you do not have your own products amazon may not be the best bet anymore. They are moving to a much more rigorous vetting of invoices and brand relationships. Basically anything that is a name brand will require actual invoices (not receipts) as well as a letter of authorization from the brand specifying amazon sales. Gone are the days of buying random products to flip. A single wrong turn will get your account banned and any money or fba products confiscated.
