Restocking Fee

How does a seller go about charging a restocking fee as allowed by Amazon, when all return refunds are issued automatically once the package has been scanned.

I received the following response via a case with seller support.

A restocking fee is a percentage of the item’s price; depending on the type of item and its condition upon return (item price does not include shipping costs). Only returned items are eligible for a restocking fee. The refund workflow will help you calculate the restocking fee for eligible items, and deduct it from the refund you issue to your customer based on the guidelines.

NOTE: Restocking fees is nothing but issuing a partial refund and the option will be available based on the table shown in the help page: https://www.sellercentral.amazon.com/help/hub/reference/G201725780

The following are the types of Refund Options

A refund can be of the below types:

  1. A standard refund : where you issue a refund after you receive the product back.
  2. A returnless refund : where you issue a refund and let the buyer keep the product. You can either automatically issue a returnless refund via rules you define (see Returnless Refunds), or you can work with the buyer via messaging for a specific return.
  3. Refund at first scan: where auto-authorized return requests through Amazon’s prepaid return label program are automatically refunded once the customer drops off the return at a designated carrier location (see Refund at First Scan).

NOTE: The refund is considered partial if it does not match the item price that the buyer was charged. You may issue a partial refund (instead of a full refund) depending on the return circumstances. For example you may charge:

The problem is that is not accurate because the return shows it has Standard Refund yet the refund was issued when the return was scanned.
