The best way to discover what not to do is to read the forum every day. As for what you should do -- start off with going through ALL of Seller University (although if you have no interest in FBA you can skip that class).

2. Read the answers in this forum daily. That will show you the most frequent pitfalls

Don't:

ask friends and familiy to buy your product and to leave reviews or ratings / Click other sellers ads / give bad or good ratings to other sellers / hijack listings of other brands / try to sell big brands like NIKE, Adidas, etc. / buy from Alibaba etc. etc.

There are thousand Don'ts, these are just a few.
