What is the impact in enrolling in brand registry after listing your first product?
As I am just now preparing to launch my first product, I am curious as to what the impact is on becoming brand registered after the launch of my first product. Seeing as they are very expensive and from everything I've seen you can sell private label products as "Generic", I am electing to get the trademark after the first product is launched. My product is labeled as "Generic" while it has our logo on it. From what I've seen, after you list a product as "Generic" you can't change it to your brand name. I am wondering how big of an impact that this has on sales. Further, I am also curious as to if I will be forced to create a new ASIN after I get my brand trademarked.
If I have proof that I own the trademark and am the same seller of the "Generic" product bearing the same trademark, will I be allowed to keep that ASIN? I would hate to have to create an entire new listing (without any reviews or anything) for the sole purpose of including our brand name rather than generic. To me it seems that is counterintuitive, but I am pretty ignorant on this topic. Please let me know your opinions!

short answer is No- no transfer from generic to TM.
My opinion: you are already investing and invested on this project. Don’t rush it.
Take a breather, and read until you almost memorize the brand registry program made by amazon as well as the options to grow your business.
check the post written on the brand registry section from the last 6 months of fellow sellers that went through this same process and questions you are having.
After reading those, you will confirm your intuition, and gain confidence as business owner.
However, if you are just testing the water, just do the generic… and see where it takes it.
Good luck

Hello @Seller_BwZW5gtsfwUX6
@Seller_Itu5QzRB1QppK is correct that sellers will have to create new ASINs.
Please see the help page and look at the details under Policies for editing detail pages.
If you choose to re-brand a product you must create a new ASIN rather than update an existing ASIN. This is true even if the product is unbranded and does not change materially after the brand change. This includes adding a brand to a previously unbranded product.
If you get lots of positive feedback on your generic listing, it could be damaging to delete and erase back to your trademarked ASIN, but this is a decision for you to make as you know your business and product the best.
If you have any additional questions please let me know.
Best,
Sandy
