Difference between Arbitrage and Private Label?
Hello -
I am new to selling on Amazon and mostly interested in arbitrage. I am confused on if I need to create a private label to sell a brand name product I found at a resale store (like goodwill / Home Goods)?
I am not necessarily interested in going to this brand, and requesting permission to buy wholesale from them and be listed as an authorized seller, if selling this one product might be a one time or random occurrence.
The product has a brand name tag on it, but no original UPC code or anything. Do I just list this as generic? or do I apply for my own private label and sell it under that? Or am I not allowed to do either?
I just want to do things the right way. Thank you!

You have a lot to learn before you begin.
If you are interested in the arbitrage model, the brand you are looking at should already exist in the Amazon catalog.
For example. lets use Home Goods as a brand.
You should go to Amazon.com and search for Home Goods in the search bar and also the item from Home Goods you want to sell. Once you find it, you need to locate something called an ASIN. Add that ASIN to your inventory, and if your account has no restrictions on that ASIN, you will be able to list the product immediately to sell. The downside is that so can anyone else. You have to be on the same listing as everyone else. Its not like Ebay where everyone gets their own listing.

Hi @Seller_7KBciOwWHNzXS,
Steve from Amazon here, thank you for the question. I am dropping some resources below with guidelines on sourcing products to sell on Amazon. As well as resources regarding sourcing documentation guidelines. I recommend that you become familiar with these guidelines as documentation could be requested in the future.

Responsible Sourcing documentation request requirements
Invoice requirements for when you apply to sell
@Seller_vSOOwekJLU6c0 provided good information on making sure ASINs already exist for any product you may want to sell. See this resource for more information on creating and managing offers.
If you have any questions please let me know.
Thanks,
Steve
