Incorrect format. Please enter a valid identifier.

My brand registration is stalled because of the following error: Incorrect format. Please enter a valid identifier. This is under business registration information. I do not want to use my EIN. I enter the following format XXXXXXXXXXX-GRT. I have taken out the dash and letters and get the same error. New Mexico's business I.D. is 11 numbers with a dash and suffix. I have tried several variations but keep getting the same error. An Amazon rep finally told me to get legal advice and disconnected from chat. Can anyone please assist?

"I do not want to use my EIN."

It's Amazon, so what you want (or don't want) to do might not matter!

Here are some of the most common issues with BR.

Go over everything with a magnifying glass looking for a missing 'period' or 'comma'.

Is there a different capitalization, abbreviation, spelling, or, even an extra spa ce?

Is your Brand registered (or applied for) with the USPTO?

Amazon is admitting applicants under CERTAIN conditions when only filed but not granted.

This is from Sandy_Amazon on 5/16/2023

“To be eligible for Amazon Brand Registry, your brand must have an active registered trademark in each country where you wish to enroll or have a pending trademark application filed through Amazon IP Accelerator. Brand Registry is also accepting brands that have a trademark pending registration in a subset of trademark offices.”

Additionally, IF you ever get an actual TM (if you don’t now) When Amazon says something must match they mean EXACTLY!

That means Street is not ST.

Jim is not James.

ALL CAPS is not SOme CAps

Thanks to Sandy_Amazon for letting us all know that Brand Registry applications are also space sensitive.

And so on………………..

They mean every comma, period, dash, etc. must be EXACTLY THE SAME INCLUDING SPACE S.

Go over everything with a magnifying glass looking for a missing 'period' or 'comma'. Is there a different capitalization, abbreviation, spelling, or, even an extra spa ce?

What is the EXACT BRAND (as GRANTED) on the USPTO site? Is it the EXACT same as the Brand on the Amazon account AND the brand on the packaging?

What is the name of the Owner (REGISTRANT) on the USPTO site? Is it the EXACT same name as the owner of the Amazon account?

If it is NOT exactly the same you will need to show some proof that the two are the same as to ownership! I had to submit my LLC State Registration with MY name as the owner of the LLCs since my Amazon Selling account and the LLC that I registered under are under different LLC names.

The OWNER of the Brand is the one that MUST enter into the Brand Registry agreement. If the owner is not the same as the Amazon seller the seller will have to be granted access by the owner AFTER REGISTRATION.

You might have to take a picture of it while holding it in your hand (unless it weighs 1000 pounds!)

Amazon can be 'weird' at times and I have seen where they ask for a handheld picture.

In addition, on one post @jim_amazon added this interesting reason for a rejection!

“One other piece of advice, I've some applications have issues when the 'Suggested ASINs' list is filled out incorrectly so I recommend leaving that section blank!”

Additional comment from @dougal_amazon on rejections --

“In the interim, @NEVERLAST is spot on with making sure your application matches with USPTO exactly. The 2 areas I see the most common errors (for US TMs) are the Trademark type not aligning with the what can be accepted for enrollment. You can check this out on the Enrollment guidelines for the US help page. Or, the current owner information tab in USPTO does not align with what you have submitted for you application, to include any attachments. “

Hi @Seller_j33ueSjDsKPYQ,

My name is Dougal from the Community Manager Team and I would be happy to assist. Thanks @CR_Amazonfor looping me into this one.

Thanks for the case ID which led me to 2 other applications/appeals for Brand Registry enrollment which have been rejected as well. I appreciate you attaching the NM business registration document in one of those appeals.

I believe the root cause to your issue resides in New Mexico. I tried searching the business ID you provided in the appeal in every format I could think of in both NewMexico.gov corporate business search and generally in google and I received 0 results.

I did notice that despite your filing date being in June, the start date on the tax ID wasn't until 8/1/24. I am curious if there is a chance that the "paperwork," has just not yet been filed at the tax and revenue office.

My guess is that it may not be formatting or at least not yet.... I am guessing a connection is not being made between the business registration number you are putting into the enrollment form and the site in which that business ID should reside.

If you are able to provide either the URL or a link to your business registration that can be reviewed and verified, I recommend creating a new seller support case (they will route to Brand Registry support) That states you are trying to enroll your brand, but are receiving the following error (insert screenshot), but your business is registered via (insert URL and/or screenshot) in New Mexico.

Hope this helps and please let me know how it goes.

Best, Dougal
