Amazon is Misleading Sellers - New Return Tracking Status Prompt
This morning it seems Amazon decided to change the return tracking status prompts for returns not yet dropped off to the carrier by buyers to "Package Left The Shipper Facility" from "Carrier Picked Up The Package."
Funny enough, none of the returns that show "Package Left The Shipper Facility" here on Amazon have been received by the carrier when you search the tracking number on the UPS/FedEx/USPS websites. In other words this new prompt is misleading sellers, absolutely CRAZY and wildly misleading!
Below is the prompt I am referring to, we are an FBM seller. I cannot wrap my head around this, shouldn't the prompt be something like "Carrier Awaiting Package"

Hi @Seller_zGoDlPZLneGhF
Let me confirm that I understand the issue. I assume this change in verbiage is seen on your outbound orders. If so, the change is likely due to a need to be clear about exactly when a package is in the carrier's possession. The first scan made by the carrier is the date we use to validate an order for protection under Buy Shipping benefits and features. If you visit that help page you will see that key to the protection is for a seller to purchase Amazon's Buy Shipping and ship on time. I understand there has been confusion around whether or not a tracking entry that reads "Carrier Picked Up The Package" qualifies as shipped on time.

I tried a safe t on that same reason and my item was ineligible because I am not prime. However, that was one day. Another day it could have been good.
I sometimes see a refund if a customer just mails where's my stuff. I am never successful at safe t's sp I rarely try.

We fell for this one a couple times since we moved over to FBM from FBA - a couple of under $20 items we thought were "on the way" we just refunded to make things easier & they were never "on the way" - I agree with the OP.

I noticed the same thing and went off to check the tracking on UPS and found that they had not received it yet. You have to wonder about who makes these changes and whether Amazon has any kind of internal review/approval process.

For reference, it appears that they use the date that they issue the return label for the "Carrier Picked up the Package" message. But, in truth, that is all that has been done, the label was issued via Amazon. Do no refund until you receive the package or it actually appears in transit with trackable destinations. If it is auto-authorized, Amazon will not credit the customer until it has left a facility.

I noticed this too. My guess is a change is coming with regards to returns…one that will likely cost sellers.

As annoying as it is, I physically check the tracking on the carriers site. Its the only way to be sure.

Hi @Seller_zGoDlPZLneGhF
My colleague and I are still trying to get some information about the issue you posted. Thank you for your patience.

Yep, I saw that too. This return tracking has always had its funny statements. But this one is the most confusing so far.
"Package left the shipper facility" - what does it even mean, Amazon? The package hasn't been actually given to the shipping carrier yet - they have no record of accepting the package if we search by the tracking number.
Why not state the truth: "Return shipping label provided to the buyer. Buyer has not shipped the item yet"?
Honestly, for what I care is that Amazon can write anything they want there, and that won't make any difference to me. If they refund the customer based on their own imaginary Event details entry I will SAFE-T the heck out of it, and that team will be looking at the actual tracking information at the carrier, not what Amazon writes in the return status event log.

The biggest problem with this is that after 30 days I'll open a Safe-T claim as "package refunded but not returned and will be denied because it looks like it was returned. So you think you're protected? Yes, I used buy shipping yes I followed all the rules and was denied such a case because of the old scan that showed "carrier picked up the package. After many appeals AND showing the actual tracking from the UPS website (there wasn't any), they told me I had to open a claim with UPS. Seriously you can't make this stuff up. I can't even imagine what will happen with this new one. Oh wait yeah I can
