Amazon Just Rug Pulled Used Book & Other Media FBA Sellers Overnight

**On February 23rd, Amazon changed their Buy Box logic, and it’s devastating for used book and media FBA sellers. At first, I hoped this was a glitch, but a reliable source who just met with Amazon confirmed that this is not a glitch—this is the new Buy Box logic. I dont know if it will stay the new buybox permanently, but we do know this new change was intentional.

What’s Happening:

MFN sellers are now exclusively winning the used Buy Box for media (with very few exceptions), if their prices are lower even though shipping is slower.

80-90% of sales come from winning the Buy Box, so this change killed our FBA sales overnight.

The Prime bump is gone—Used FBA can no longer price higher and still win.

Many sellers source and make buying decisions based on used FBA pricing, expecting the Buy Box advantage.

This shift means:

We already lost money on inventory we bought and sent to Amazon.

Now, we’ll lose even more money removing books that won’t sell at a profit.

Amazon gave no warning, leaving sellers blindsided.

What Needs to Happen:

If Amazon won’t reverse this, they should at least offer free removals so sellers can recover their inventory and adapt. This was a radical, overnight change, and it’s only fair that Amazon helps sellers who paid money shipping their inventory into amazon, only for them to rug pull us overnight.

Completely agree. I've been reducing my inventory recently as is, but still have thousands of books in FBA inventory and recently heard this is the new buy box logic, and is intentional. More so, it's an indefinite change, there is no timeline on anything changing back. I'm planning to liquidate as much as possible by slashing prices, I don't see another option as of now. I can't rack up storage fees, nor compete with massive MF sellers who make money on shipping discounts. If this remains permanent, selling media FBA is dead. I won't be sending anymore to warehouses, and maybe thats their goal.

if Amazon has a book in stock, they will always have the Buy Box no matter what any other seller's price might be.

Unless something has changed very recently, that statement is, surprisingly, not true.

I always do a double take when I see those detail pages, but they're out there. More common than I ever would have thought.
