"Refurbished" condition
I attempted to edit a listing that we have had on for several years and got the following message:
"Refurbished condition. You are not approved to list this product and we are not accepting applications at this time." I got the same message when I tried to list it again from scratch using the ISBN.
I'm not even sure what a "refurbished" book is, and we only sell books (including this one) in the "used" category. The book appears both in our active listings and on the Amazon page as a purchasable item, so I suppose I should not worry. But it is an odd thing. Anyone else encounter this? Glitch?

Yes .. I have a handful of vintage Harlequin Romance books (from memory one is by Betty Neels) that I can't edit .. I've been slowly adding pictures to my listings and was unable to do so for several titles. I too found it odd that the title would remain for sale but not allow me to edit said title's description/price or add pix. When I click on edit .. this is what shows: Sorry, this product is ineligible for Amazon Marketplace selling at this time. Amazon being Amazon .. Best of luck .. KJ @ BookshopByTheFalls

Amazon did ANOTHER big technical update. Most of my listings went unscathed but not all.
I had one that said I didn't live in the US and went through a queue that then said I was approved. Still the used or refurbished error persisted.
Rather than wade through a myriad of useless time consuming Seller Support Associates, try using a template update under Category/Upload via File. Fill out the orange section, marking it as an Update or Partial Update. Then find the one other cell (Ctrl F) that is for condition_type; it will be buried so use the "+" signs to open more cells. Mark it as Used. Save and upload the file. This cleared it for me.

I've been wondering the same thing, as a few dozen of my used books have been rejected for the same reason.
Out of curiosity, I checked some dictionary definitions.
the act or process of cleaning and decorating a room, building, etc. in order to make it more attractive, more useful, etc. [OED]
to brighten or freshen up : RENOVATE [Merriam Wester]
Maybe if we left the dust and crud on our used books, didn't remove old stickers, etc., they would be acceptable to Amazon as "unrefurbished"? It certainly confuses me.
Perhaps an Amazon Moderator could clarify....

Hello @Seller_YBfUTeoG971hG.
The message you see is a general message indicating that "Refurbished" is not a valid condition for that ASIN or category.
It does not mean that you are attempting to list it in that condition and it is not related to your ability to list. This is not a new message, and you do not need to pay attention to the "Refurbished condition" part.
As for editing in general, you can first check with support if there's an issue blocking you from editing your listing.

"So while "Refurbished" does show in the 'You are not approved' message, it should be ignored as it is not related to the reason the decision was made, or any appeal that is requested."
Well, that solves it. 😒😒
Hmm, after consulting with my imaginary assistant, George Franz Kafka Orwell, something is DOUBLE PLUS UNGOOD in the engineering world of Amazon.
I really can't make any sense of your reply.

The "Refurbished condition" message when I tried to edit the listing wouldn't have been half so puzzling to me if my book were not clearly listed in my active Amazon inventory AND appearing on the Amazon listing page as still active and on offer. (And, of course, because the notion of a "refurbished" book makes no sense to me at all.) Ah! the mysteries of Amazon!

Oh yes, a number of times. Now I'm dealing with the book, "Biodegradable Soap, A Novel", by Amy Ephron. Even though there are already 22 of these books up on Amazon that you may readily purchase; mine is suppressed and you can guess why. When I try to go in and edit, I'm told that I'm not authorized and must contact the company...??? Gotta luv it!!!

I've encountered this, as well -- even on books I have listened years ago.

They did another listing update and things were put in the wrong category. You can wait for CS to fix it which will never happen or accept that you will have to relist it.
