Threatening bad feedback and AtoZ for immediate and FULL refund

I have had a couple now where the customers are threatening bad feedback for a FULL refund. They are using "inaccurate website description" in order not to pay return shipping costs

We are FBM and do not offer free shipping.

Tell them to request a return and Amazon will send them a prepaid label, and that you will refund when you get the item. Do not give in to blackmail. If they leave neg feedback, you can reply to it. I don't offer free shipping & my experience lately has been that Amazon refunds everything anyway, even when it's a so-called buyer faulted return reason. Was your description inaccurate?

I assume this threat was made through Buyer-Seller Messaging? I would certainly report it using the report message button located below the message.

And do as @Seller_XSqPquQH4FvW1 suggests, however, I would also add that you'll refund according to Amazon's policy, just in case you receive a different item or a damaged item back.

I strongly believe this kind of buyer must be red-flagged by Amazon. Also, the buyer must NOT be allowed to leave a bad (less than four stars) feedback for that particular item. Or maybe, Amazon will need to send stern warning to the buyer. Threatening a bad feedback is a black mail to the seller.

Tatiana from Amazon here. I can absolutely understand your frustration with this kind of message. You've already received some good advice from your fellow sellers, particularly from @Seller_XSqPquQH4FvW1 and @Seller_LImVvUWeyiCfQ, so I just wanted to help verify their advice and build on that.

Whenever you receive messages such as these I would suggest doing exactly as Aardvark_Book_Depot and Veron have said:

  1. Refer the buyer to our Amazon Returns Policy and ask that they file a return request through the proper procedure.
  2. Next, select the Report Message on the Buyer Seller Messaging page. You can learn more about how to do this by visiting this FAQs page (the instructions are near the bottom).
  3. Log any repeat behavior, meaning the same buyer is threatening this for multiple orders. If you have noticed this is repeated behavior from the same buyer, please let me know.
  4. If an A-to-Z claim is made, be sure to appeal it through these steps. Include information regarding the buyer-seller messages in your appeal.

I hope this information helps. As I said above, if you have noticed on singular buyer repeating this behavior, please let me know.

Feedback and reviews are a joke, and have been used to extort free products and shipping since Ebay started the feedback crap. Every seller who mentions a review or feedback has been trained by these companies to legally shoplift now. There are tiktok and youtube videos explaining how to get anything you want for free using these companies own policies. It's sickening as a seller. Either make everyone leave one or remove them because only people who are mad leave em, or people wanting something for free. If everyone left one, it wouldn't affect me, but on Amazon only 1 out of 300 leave a review. There is no incentive to leave one if you are happy, only if you are upset. The review/feedback system is abused in every way. Fix the system please. It's just not fair to any seller, or even buyers. People pay for good ones so even a buyer can't trust the system. Remove it. The entire system is flawed from beginning to end.

I always thank them graciously for putting their threats in writing and remind them that threatening sellers is against Amazon rules and Amazon keeps the messages on file forever. Then in the next paragraph, refund upon return only and we reserve the right to charge up to 100% restocking fee, depending on the condition of the item. Original postage is not returned and you pay to send it back.

That may be so, but as FBM you MUST offer them "Free Return Postage".

When they initiate a "Return" they will automatically be provided a Pre-Paid Return Shipping Label.

DO NOT succumb to threats. Follow Amazon Policy and trust them to protect you.

If they do not Return the item, they will NOT receive any Refund. Period.

If the delivered item is in ANY way different from the item pictured or described in the listing, Amazon will side with the customer on this. The customers are only required to cover return shipping if its because they ordered it accidentally or changed their mind. If you ship something defective or different, Amazon says that return shipping is on you, and trying to fight that is NOT in your best interest.
