EORI and shipping from China

Hi all, not directly amazon related i guess but part of the whole process. Im a first timer and done my fair shar of research and my first shipment is coming over from China. Im in the process of getting my EORI but as a new limited company i need my company UTR hence the delay in getting my EORI.

Anyway, my supplier in China (who had good reviews and verified on Alibaba) has said not to worry about any of that as i don't need it and has sending my goods today via DDP rail.

They are coming to my home address but are adamant that they handle all customs and delivery requirements. Doesn't sound right to me and everything i read online would suggest its not right. Any advice is greatly appreciated and if, as suspected, i do need an EORI number then can i still get this whilst the goods are in transit?

Like i say, they are verified, lots of excellent reviews, have shipped to the UK on countless occassions and have been great and knowledgable throughout the ordering process. So they know what they are doing but it doesn't marry up with the requirements i read online

They say they handle all customs and delivery requirements, but what are the incoterms? If they really handle everything, the incoterms you would expect would be DDP (Delivered Duty Paid), but I highly doubt it. If you don't know about incoterms, Wikipedia has an easy to understand colourful table which roughly breaks down each definition very nicely.

If you do need to have an EORI, it should have already been put on the commercial invoice.

If you don't have your UTR then I guess you're not VAT registered, so you won't receive a C79 on the import, so you need to keep everything to attempt to reclaim the import VAT incurred when it comes through customs.

Google is your friend, and the HMRC community forums are full of questions like these, but what you really need is an accountant. A good accountant will save you more money than you pay them.
