Spanish VAT certificate is my EORI number but Spain are pulling it
So I do trade in Europe as some of the forum posters are aware and I have alwatys tried to give advice to other sellers when selling in Europe.
For my sins I have used Avalara as my tax agbents and to be fair I have never rated them and wouldn’t recommend them to anyone.
So I have received a VAT notice from the spanish authorities saying that due to nil finlings in the last year they are going to de-register me from Spansih VAT. To be honest I don’t really care about the registration in Spain except for the fact it is in Spain where my EORI is regsitered to trade freely across Europe so deregistering the VAT in Spain will probably invaildate my EORI.
Avalara have offered useless advice by just saying if I want assistance I should pay them £150 an hour to have a look at it. I contacted VAT services who have just referred me to speak to the Spanish VAT office. But to do what?
I don’t really see myself doing any transactions that I need my certiificate in Spain for. The few orders that I do get are either under IOSS so these are not transactions that go through my certificate.
I do use my EORI numebr to get my goods into Europe but the destination Country is usually France.
Does anyone on here know if I still need an EORI number for Europe if my goods are going directly to a Country that I already have a VAT certificate for. I hold a certificate for Germany, Italy, Czech Republic and Poland. I only really trade in France and Spain and do pan -eu but all my transactions are low and my tax filings for all of Europe are nil.
Amazon are just not really helping me and Avalara are just intent on fleecing me and continuing to give me poor service as they have done so for the last 6 years that I have been using them.

Pretty sure that regardless of country of destination, you will still need an EORI to clear the goods, as per the following information:
EORI registration is not mandatory in France , as it is required only to those involved in intra-community transactions or economic exchanges. Both sole proprietorships and companies in France can apply for EORI numbers . Also, foreign companies involved in economic relations with French companies can apply for EORI numbers with the French Customs Office when first entering the country.
From what I can gather, it’s a straight forward process but you may need to wait until you have de registered for VAT in Spain before you apply for the French EORI number.
The issue that you may have though, is that if you’re not VAT registered, then you cannot store stock in Spain. Which rules pan EU out and if it’s one of your largest markets, may cause you an issue with Amazon.
Bit of a minefield for you, and I feel your pain.

It occurs to me that your EORI won’t necessarily become invalid just because your VAT is deregistered.
VAT and EORI numbers are usually synchronised, however it isn’t necessary to have a VAT number to have an EORI.
