Zwei Jahre später: Amazon wird mein Verkäuferkonto nicht schließen

I hope someone serious from Amazon can please help.

I have been trying to close my Amazon.de seller central account for two years. I stopped selling in 2022 and officially de-registered my German business November 2022. For some reason, Amazon kept charging me two cents per month "storage fees." This has prevented my account from reaching zero activity in order for me to qualify for closing my account.

I have been raising cases for two years with seller support. Many support cases never work because the support team does not know what to do. In May I was given a refund of 92 cents, at least, when someone at Amazon agreed the charges were wrong, and agreed that indeed I have no stock at Amazon. I haven't sold on Amazon for two years and had no stock at all in storage so these charges have been a real problem.

Still, the monthly fees keep coming, and several support cases get closed by unhelpful support assistants who say they cannot help me as I do not have a valid VAT ID any longer. My German VAT ID was valid until end 2022, when I closed my business with the German government, so of course I do not need to have a valid VAT ID any longer, and paid all my taxes. No one at Amazon support has been willing to escalate my case.

Now, because my account has been "active" so long without a valid VAT ID as I closed it when de-registering my business, Amazon UK says they wish to collect 23 thousand euros in VAT for sales made in EU from 2021 to the end of my business. This has only been triggered because I have no valid VAT ID on my account because I've been trying to close my account for so long. I have already paid all VAT back when I lived in Germany ending 2022 and can easily prove that with my tax reports, so that's really not funny now. Still, without a Valid VAT ID any longer Amazon UK imagines I never had a VAT ID in the past so wants money. I have paid all my taxes correctly and this problem is getting out of hand.

Can anyone advise on how to reach someone at Amazon who will take my case seriously and actually give me support? It is just because of two cents per month charges I cannot close my account down and its causing the world of trouble.

Unfortunately, you need a registered company with a valid VAT number to reactivate your account and then close it properly. So you've unfortunately gone the wrong way, a lot of people make that mistake. With a bit of luck, the moderators here can help, but I've never read here that it worked without a valid VAT number.

As a general information, in order to close an account it has to have all stores in active status and with any negative saldo.

Just to clarify what @Seller_CJjIUGWJZIDbWsaid, there are exceptions that apply to the scenario: Account blocked for VAT Compliance. If you can provide a company de-registration document with the help of Account Health Support Department, you will be able to close the account.
