VAT on Seller Fees....

So I thought this was going to be a simple change on 1st August but I am seeing the following which is just odd:

VAT on all Seller fees - UK & EU, all at 20%

VAT on FBA fees - only in the UK, at 20%

Why is there no VAT on FBA fees in EU but there is in the UK?

Also, how on earth do I get some sort of statement/invoice showing the VAT clearly so I can reclaim with HMRC? Surely I don't have to download a transaction CSV with 10,000+ lines?

Thanks

Because the company is still based in EU therefore EU reverse charge mechanism applies.

Although Amz is based in EU they have opted to have a UK VAT code under the "VATREG37150 - Non-established taxable persons (NETPs)" rules therefore everyone in UK is now charged 20% VAT on all fees.

Good morning @Seller_a7KfTOsGyRvnj,

I'm working on answering your questions with the partner team.

Would you mind sharing the order ID or IDs for the scenario: "EU - 20% on seller fees ONLY - incorrect (no VAT being applied to FBA fees)"?

If you prefer, you can share this data via a private message.

Kind regards,

Julia.

I'm a UK-established VAT-registered business selling in the UK and across the EU. I have noticed the same on transactions since 1 August:

VAT on all Seller fees - UK & EU at 20%

VAT on FBA fees - only in the UK, at 20%

No VAT on FBA fees in the EU. Weird.

In my company accounts system (Xero), I normally create a single fortnightly sales invoice, one per marketplace, which details all sales, fees, deductions, refunds etc. I download the Flat File v2 from the 'Payments / All statements' page in Seller Central and use this to create my fortnightly invoice. The final total of the invoice = the value of the disbursement.

Tax on customer sales & refunds is clearly itemised in the Flat File v2 report. But tax isn’t itemised for Amazon fees. The Seller fee values in my August Flat File reports have increased by 20% and are presumably now VAT-inclusive. This is very poor reporting by Amazon – the flat file now contains a mixture of VAT-exclusive and VAT-inclusive figures, and they don’t make it clear which is which.

I’m going to wait until the Fee invoices appear at the end of August before finalising any fortnightly sales invoices in my company accounts. We’ll only be able to see what’s going on re VAT, once Amazon have produced some proper VAT invoices for the fees.

I was hoping there would be a spreadsheet I could download that would identify the amount of VAT Amazon charged on its various fees for each transaction (or clarify where VAT has not been charged).

I was looking for the information in a format similar to the data available for income in the Payments, Transaction View - here VAT is clearly identified / separated out.

The information in the long awaited reports provided today for VAT Amazon charges on its fees is highly summarised and in PDF form - not much help to me for book-keeping purposes.

Has anyone found anything more useful?

Many thanks,
