Ungated categories
I am new to selling on Amazon and want to start with retail arbitrage. My account has been approved but every time I scan anything and everything, it seems that all categories are restricted. Do I have to purchase items through a wholesale company to get an invoice to ungate categories or should some of them be available now? I am finding conflicting answers and it is frustrating.

This is very risky. You are likely to lose all the product and proceeds from product sales.
Purchasing an item at a store and selling it on Amazon as new is a violation of Amazon policy.
Most items you can purchase at a store cannot be sold second hand/used/refurbished on Amazon.

This is a smart conclusion. Seller University is an exceptional resource. Do be careful, social media/internet videos are not a good choice for research.

Look. Retail arbitrage was a thing 8 years ago. That is a several lifetimes in regard to online selling. I still did it in 2016. I saw first hand why it was an option then and how it went down.
Some folks were very successful doing it. You were able to buy in box stores items that were not readily available in some parts of the country. There was a nice markup left.
Those times are long gone. If you do it now, there will be no profit on most items.
Those entrepreneurs who created programs supporting arbitrage do not want to fail. So they keep peddling this idea.
Now what everybody are warning you that Amazon will suspend you if you do this. Yes, you will be able to sell some retail bought items. But the minute there will be a complaint by a buyer, Amazon will ask you for invoices that you will not be able to provide.
There is no coming back from this.
Wish you the best of luck.

Hi @Seller_ZNwzTVGi9j3rv,
Dominic from Amazon here, happy to help!
Happy to help with this! There is no uniform requirements for all products. For certain products, brands, categories, and sub-categories, we require sellers to obtain approval before listing products. The approval process may include document requests, performance checks, and other qualifications.
This page Categories and products that require approval should give you a ton of information on this Pre-Approval question!
Please let me know if you have any questions!
Best,
Dominic
