Help with keyword ranking

Hi all,

Had a very strange launch over the past 3 weeks. New product, 10’s of thousands spent in design/production, unique product sold under our brand. We begun launching like we always do, we spend 100’s everyday on advertising on our product launches. We do detailed keyword research and we know our niche well, we already have best selling items in this category.

So we begin the launch, we are sponsored number 1 for our target keywords and our software shows we have indexed for those keywords but no organic ranking in 90% of our keywords. This has never happened before.

We discover are product is in the incorrect category - it’s under lawn & garden (or something to that effect) and not pet supplies as it should be. We do have a BSR rank under pet supplies and our product category is correct on the listing itself but under referral fee category on Seller Central it’s showing lawn & gardening. We contact Amazon and they reply with the following

“We have read your email and understand that you would like to update the gl_type of the ASIN: (removed) as gl_pet_products. We apologize for the inconvenience caused which affects your business by financially and your customer experience.”

We are now showing at pet supplies under referral category as we should be.

Heres my question : We know that amazon products will only organically rank for keywords that Amazon thinks are relevant to our product. Is it possible that the reason we have failed to organically rank for any keywords related to our dog product is because amazon incorrectly thought they were not relevant to our product due to the category error?

The change just went through, does anyone think we might now begin to rank for relevant organic keywords? If not we are going to pay thousands to remove the inventory from Amazon and re-launch the product.

  • Note we have made considerable sales via PPC and we rank highly in BSR we have got great reviews and all signs point to the product being a great success we just are not organically ranking!

Sorry for this muddled message I have typed this incredibly quickly as I’m running into a meeting.

Thanks
